Why is it always the people who have values they believe is deeply who are expected to change to accommodate lawbreakers or other people intent upon redefining and changing important social institutions like marriage? why can’t the minority adjust and moderate their demands in order to not offend the majority? When did we decide that the minority now dictates and defines the social norms for the majority? The modus operendi of the left for the last 10 years has been intolerant, nasty and consistent: “Believe what we believe or we will call you names and discredit you anyway we can”. As pathetic and desperate as it sounds it has gained incresingly more widespread acceptance because initially it worked and worked well. It’s easy for valueless people to submit to this kind of peer pressure and intellectual blackmail… what the heck? What difference does it make and I don’t want to make anyone mad … it’s a quick slide down a slippery slope into the pig pen of marginalized values from there. Country singer Aaron Tippin sings that
“you’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything
You’ve got to be your own man not a puppet on a string
Never compromise what’s right and uphold your family name
You’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything”
We tell our children not to fold to peer pressure and “just because you see other people doing something doesn’t mean they should do it” if it’s something they know is wrong… and we tell them not to succumb to peer pressure or the fear of being called names or being an outcast.. basically we try to get them started on living a principled life they can carry forward as they become adults. Now when those same adults find themselves facing the same kind of pressures …especially this day and age…and what do they do? Do they take their own advice? Nope! Well some do..
On immigration I think that our laws should be followed otherwise what’s the use of having them, we put them in place for a reason and it should be enforced…. People tell me “oh but Cameron… you’re not sensitive to their feelings are not sympathetic to their families. You need to change your viewpoint to accommodate their unlawful behavior….if you don’t then …you are a hater, a hatemonger, a Nazi, a racist are only repeating what Beck, O’Reilly, Limbaugh told you to say, a homophobe, you are dumb, stupid, watch Fox News, hate motherhood, kick kittens, drown puppies by throwing them off of bridges, are intolerant and full of anger and hate…and if you don’t change your views then I won’t be your friend anymore?”
On gay marriage… I think marriage is an important Holy Sacrament and so does the church I have belonged to and worshiped at my entire life. This isn’t a preference for me it’s a heartfelt value that goes very deep; it’s not like preferring ketchup over mustard on my hot dog nor is it something I can turn on and off to suit what somebody else thinks I should think…. you tell me “oh but Cameron it doesn’t hurt you to let them get married…change your viewpoint to accommodate their lifestyle choice ….if you don’t then …you are a hater, a hatemonger, a Nazi, are only repeating what Beck, O’Reilly, Limbaugh told you to say, a racist, a homophobe, you are dumb, stupid, watch Fox News, hate motherhood, kick kittens, drown puppies by throwing them off a bridge, are intolerant and full of anger and hate…and if you don’t change your views then I won’t be your friend anymore?”
On Tea party politics… I think spending money you don’t have is unethical, immoral and is to be discouraged no matter who or what you are. Society endorses that viewpoint by assigning better credit ratings to people who pay their bills on time and live within their means…. you tell me “oh but Cameron we can’t cut programs for these people … you are cold and unfeeling and heartless… Change your viewpoint to accommodate governments need to spend way more money than they have an area this country and eternal debt by trying to supply everybody’s needs they should be supplying for themselves….if you don’t then …you are a hater, a hatemonger, a Nazi, are only repeating what Beck, O’Reilly, Limbaugh told you to say, a racist, a homophobe, you are dumb, stupid, watch Fox News, hate motherhood, kick kittens, drown puppies by throwing them off a bridge, are intolerant and full of anger and hate…and if you don’t change your views then I won’t be your friend anymore?”
See what I mean. It’s always so easy for other people to marginalize and show zero respect for people with values who live a principled life because those are concepts that unprincipled people don’t understand and aren’t able to understand the value of. The problem with having black-and-white types of values and absolutes to guide you in life is that they are not available to be altered to accommodate somebody’s desire for you to break them. What good is a value or principle if it is subject to change depending on what feels like the easy thing to do at the time … some of life’s rules are not flexible or open to negotiation or modification. That’s what makes them so special, and that’s what makes deciding some issues that many people struggle with so much easier. I have never had to struggle with the abortion issue… I don’t even consider riding on the max train without paying just because I know I will probably never get checked, I am not trying to say I am perfect and never make mistakes …far from it. Living a principled value driven life doesn’t spare you all of life’s roadbumps it just takes you around the big ones.
